The melanocortin receptor 4 (MC4R) is a G-protein-coupled receptor that specifically binds melanocyte stimulating hormones (α, β, γ-MSH). Studies in murine models have shown these receptors to be involved in energy homeostasis, feeding behavior, sexual behavior, and male erectile function. With obesity in humans now also becoming such a problem, this receptor has become a topic of interest because of its involvement in related aspects such as insulin resistance, fat mass, weight and risk of obesity.
Anti-MC4R-SAP eliminates cells expressing human or rat MC4R.
